Hello again! Since I last wrote, my time has been filled with a variety of events and activities. This past weekend, downtown Olympia hosted “Arts Walk”, a time where local shops, galleries, and restaurants are featured and performers, artists, and the locals converge on downtown to enjoy each others company. I love that this event is at the beginning of the year so that all the new students can go downtown and experience Olympia right from the start of the year.
Downtown at Arts Walk, I met not only a lot of new Evergreen students, but many new local faces from around Olympia. Gallery owners were out showcasing their stores and wonderful pieces of art, and some of the goods that were made by local craft workers were truly incredible. I know that this upcoming week, Greeners will be looking especially lovely with all their new jewelry and clothes that they procured at Arts Walk.
As you may or may not know, I really (really) enjoy eating, and Arts Walk is a wonderful time to explore all sorts of art, including the culinary arts. This weekend, I was introduced to my new favorite dessert spot in town, The Painted Plate. The have some truly delicious, and affordable, ice cream and coffee. In addition to that, it turns out you can paint your own pottery while eating your delicious treats! Also, they will occasionally feature student discounts, and nights of special events, so if you are in town, be sure to check them out!
All in all, this was a truly wonderful weekend and I look forward to writing to you again next week!
