Good Luck Tomorrow, was a very intense movie that cast Asian American individuals in a coming of age movie that gives us a glimpse into their life of privilege and the downward spiral that ensues. This film has stuck with me to the point that I found myself trying to analyze it so that I can make sense of it.

I am on the fence as to liking it. It is not much different than a lot of other movies in its category. It had some very explicit scenes that were very violent and disturbing to say the least. Having researched the movie prior to the showing in class was helpful in making the decision to leave the room in particular parts. Some things are just too harsh and upsetting for me to attend. It was raw and very juvenile at times. You have young men (high school age) doing some very adult, or should I say criminal, things.

The struggles that they had were real. There was a lot of stereotyping represented that caused a great deal of angst among them and their piers. Would I watch it again? Not very likely, it was just too real for me and my empathy was running way too high.

This could just as easily been cast with Caucasian young men. The struggle is real on a broad spectrum. It was nice to see Asian American actors in something like this besides “The Fast and The Furious”.
