I took some time to use all of the seminar books and the films and compare the similarities that are of help with my second draft. If I had to categorize the films and books into just words what would they be?
Negative:
It’s tough growing up and even tougher when you are a minority, Immigrating to a new country has many benefits and drawbacks, give and take, pain and suffering, less than, not the norm, fitting in-not so easy, stereotyping is real and very prominent, how to belong?, what do they have to give up to gain acceptance?.
Positive:
Smart, different in a good way, expectations/family/society-old and new, traditions old and new, who am I supposed to be now? How can I get there without loosing all that I am/was?
Now I am wondering just how I can incorporate all that I have seen, heard, and read into this one paper that will reflect my true takeaway from this class. How do I connect all of the dots into something that makes sense to others?
All of the books have left a mark on me. They are sometimes very hard to read and relate to, but I have seen the value that they hold. One thing I know for sure is that they have all expanded my capacity to empathize and see how these circumstances affected their lives in the long run.
