Mississippi Masala was an awesome film that wasn’t nearly as depressing as the others.

I didn’t know anything about Uganda and am excited to dig.

It is quite unfortunate that people act like friends and family when they are getting their way but when things are not going their way they turn against everyone. That is not just seen in darker shades of skin color but also in white against white. White privilege is real, but just because you are white does not mean that you are privileged. I have seen many shades of white in my life and this movie portrayed the many shades of dark. Skin color in America is becoming a masala and there is no reason to fight against it.

I am surprised that I have not seen the lead actress in any other films… she was beautiful and a great actress.

Books:

It was great to take a break from reading this week. I couldn’t handle another depressing book and really needed to recover from the past six.

The presentation about Sri Lanka and South Asia was well done and I am so thankful I could actually hear her. I really should sit in the front row because I can’t hear a damn thing Chico says or some of the other classmates on the other side of the lecture hall.  I realized in that presentation that of all the areas labeled as Asia, South Asia is where my heart is. I have spent time there and love the people, culture, philosophies and art. I was disappointed that of all the areas we did not read a book about… that was it… but what can you do… The presentation made up for that…

One question I have is this… Is it a bad thing for women who are not white to get with white guys? Because it seems to me like anti-racism is the newest form of racism and these young ladies are doing everything in their power to despise white guys. Which is very upsetting to me, not because I want to get with them as much as I think it is hypocritical and breeding hatred. I would hate to see one of these asian gals get with a white guy and all their friends disown them and call them a sellout… same with a black girl… same with a white girl with a black guy… Why is the new trend such an extreme change from the last? What ever happened to everything in moderation?

We are living in the same country and if you don’t like it you can leave. Nobody is forcing you to be here, just like in the class. Unless of course you are a felon on probation. But you get the point.

White, black, yellow, brown… all of the shades are indivisible in my eyes. So why the hell does everybody else have to focus so much on it?

That is what I loved the most about being in the military. Skin color didn’t matter at all as long as we were on the same team. We are all Americans and until we realize that we will never be a united force. Until we unite as a country we will continue to persecute other nations instead of focusing on ourselves. Of course, this is just my ignorant opinion. I really don’t know a thing.

I do know one thing… I am ready for Thanksgiving break.
