This article talks about the history of the Transcontinental Railway, a massive country-wide series of railroads constructed by a diverse workforce. The article talks about acknowledging the Chinese immigrants who endured terrible working conditions, low pay, and racism as they constructed this massive project. Chinese workers were then vilified and nearly wiped out of mention in history regarding the construction of the massive rail system. It is a ceremony that raises awareness to the many who died in the railway’s construction. There is also a brief mention of Native Americans who were displaced by the construction of the Railway, another group affected by the Transcontinental Railway.
