Elaine Chu and Marina Perez-Wong are two female Asian American artists from The Bay Area. They met each other when they were 14 years old in the Ruth Asawa School of Arts. After attending separate Art colleges, they regrouped and formed Twin Wall Mural Company. They intend to fill the walls and streets they grew up around with colors and powerful imagery empowering women. They know the importance of being strong lady painters, because people were shocked when they same two women painting on walls. People would exclaim that they were guys. They see themselves as twins even though they aren’t related by blood, whenever one of them doesn’t want to do something the other does it.

When searching for API artists, these were the first two that caught my attention. Their work is so beautiful and it takes both their Asian American heritage and Perez’s Mexicana heritage. They combine their experiences and give back to the community that they grew up with.
