Things I’ve learned this week:
- The Joy Luck Club gave me a glimpse of the generation divisions in the Asian American community. The world was a different place during the generations upbringing and that is a huge distinction in what shapes the generations.
- There is a difference between Kung Fu (Chinese) and Karate (Japanese) and people need to be educated on the distinction.
- In Kung Fu / Shaolin, you strengthen the weakest points of the body – the throat and the crotch. They hang by their throats, kick in the crotch and pull weights by their crotch. They turn the weak parts into “iron”, “the iron crotch”.
- There is a lack of Asian representation on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
- Lucy Liu is the second Asian American woman to receive a star.
