Final Project: 15 Resources + Topic Change (draft)

Why aren’t there many Korean Americans in the music industry, not as producers but as the artist themselves?

  • Talk about the 1.5 generation immigrant
  • Talk about the American entertainment industry and their failure to represent Asian people of different ethnicities, and other minority groups.
  • Korean Americans don’t pursue entertainment in the states but pursue it in Korea, (connect it to the roles as a child of immigrants) (Hypothetically)
  • What success means to the 1.5 generation or second generation and what does first generation and family values do to shape their goals.
  • How can American improve, what social changes are happening that will make first-generation people from different Asian ethnicities to change their definition of success?

why have Americans of Asian descent been virtually shut out from the top echelons of the music industry?” ie. the singer signed to a label and not the work behind the success of an artist.

I think maybe you could broaden your definition of art. Also, while Asian Americans are shut out of the entertainment mainstream and the spotlight quite often, there are actually many many Asian American artists. Many Asians practice art, music, dance, and theatre without becoming famous for it. Many Asian artists work in the American cartoon and videogame industry too. Also taking a look at Asian American internet creators and indie artists could be good too. Good luck.

! thank you for this! I was thinking of focusing on Acting and Singers. I was going to research on Asian American artists here in America and deeper explore the “why” as to why artists that are Asian in America don’t get the spotlight and why many have resorted to chasing “fame” in the country of their Ethnicity followed by the history of Asian immigration to the USA.
I’m aware that there are is a representation of Asian Americans in other lines of art in America so thank you for pointing that out, and I would like to dig deeper in that area.

So this topic seems very interesting but I am curious on why you changed topics? Was it just that this seemed more intersting?

    • Omar says:

I changed it cause after a talk with Chico about how I was struggling to narrow it down he and Sakiko suggested that I focus on one artist, on a person, or even one song and go from there! So that was what led me to change my topic!
