Project Update #1
Hello.
As everyone in my class knows–one of our required pieces of work is a research paper on something that is interesting to us, that sparks our interest but relates to Asian pop culture, and after a lot of thinking i have decided that my topic will be K-pops huge success in America and how the American public is accepting the genre as mainstream pop culture as of current times.
To successfully make this research paper cohesive I have compiled a rough outline on what i want my paper to include, here is a rough contents list.
Origins: Research papers need a background so I will be doing research on the origins of the genre as a whole, and its “humble” beginnings.
Standards: Research on what it takes to be a Kpop idol
Training: Company boot camps to craft the perfect idol
Gender success gap: women VS men in regards to overseas success
Impact on the American public: America’s rise of embracing music that is not in English, want to talk about Raeggetton, and now Kpop in airplay, and popular culture.
Future of Kpop in America: BTS, Blackpink current big names in pop and predictions for their future.
I’m looking forward to searching for sources to back up my train of thought, so please stay tuned.
I do not listen to or know all that much about K-pop myself, but I’ve always been curious on how the Korean music industry differs from ours. I’ve also always wondered if the huge popularity of Gangnam Style in 2012 has anything to do with the popularity of K-pop in our country today, so that could be something worth talking about 🙂
