OLYMPIA, Wash. – Evergreen junior Cody Peters (Coupeville, Wash./Western Oregon Univ.) put up 24 points but it wasn’t enough as the 10th-ranked Lewis-Clark State Warriors earned a 78-63 win over the Evergreen Geoducks in a non-conference men’s basketball game on Friday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
The Warriors (11-0) earned the first points of the game on a pair of free throws by Nick Fromm just 52 seconds in and LCSC controlled the pace the rest of the first half. Lewis-Clark State pushed the lead to double-digits on a three-pointer by Donte Archie with 9:40 left to play to give the Warriors the 22-11 lead. The differential stayed about the same the rest of the way to halftime as LCSC took the 39-27 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Geoducks (1-6) fought back, using a 14-2 run to tie the game on a three-pointer by Peters with 14:47 left to play. The score stayed close until just after the ten-minute mark as the Warriors slowly began to pull away. The lead hit double-digits again with 6:39 left on the clock as Lewis-Clark State stayed undefeated on the year with the 78-63 win.
The Geoducks were paced by the 24 points from Peters, who connected on nine-of-11 attempts, including three-of-four from behind the arc. Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC) came off the bench to score 11 for the Geoducks. Evergreen shot 41.5% on the game, making 22-of-53 attempts from the field.
Lewis-Clark State was led by 11 points off the bench from both Archie and Derrick Wofford. Robert Ellis led the Warrior starters with 10 points on the night. LCSC connected on 26-of-48 attempts for 54.2%.
The Geoducks are back in action again on Saturday night, traveling up to Seattle to take on Seattle Pacific. Tip with the Falcons is set for 7 pm at Brougham Pavilion.
