EVERETT, Wash. – Playing in wet and windy conditions, the Evergreen Geoducks couldn’t hold off the Trinity Lutheran Eagles, falling 4-1 in a non-conference women’s soccer match on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Field in Everett, Wash.

The Eagles got on the board just three minutes into the game as Kayla Kliphardt fired a high shot from the top of the box that snuck just under the crossbar.  Trinity Lutheran struck against just seconds before halftime as Courtney Brown collected a loose ball in the box and finished  from near point blank as TLC took a 2-0 lead into the break.

Evergreen closed the gap in the 51st minute after Kori Lerch (Chester, Va./Matoaca HS) gathered a ball from Delaney Smith (Dupont, Wash./Steilacoom HS/Tacoma CC) and fired from about 25 yards out, finishing in the upper left corner.

Trinity widened the gap again in the 80th minute as Kliphardt scored her second goal of the game and then Kaeli Eberth scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute as the Eagles collected the 4-1 non-conference win.

TLC held a 21-8 advantage on shots, though the gap was just 7-3 in the second period.  Evergreen keeper Kaitlin MacKenzie (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS/Shoreline CC) made nine first half saves in her only game in her home county this season.  Kyla Kitts (Renton, Wash./Kentridge HS/Highline CC) came in for the second half, making two saves.

The Geoducks are back in action on Saturday when they open up Cascade Conference play at Northwest.  Kick with the Eagles is set for 3:30 p.m. in Kirkland, Wash.
