PORTLAND, Ore. – Scoring the equalizing goal with less than two minutes to go in regulation, the Warner Pacific Knights took advantage of a defensive misplay by the Evergreen Geoducks to put in the overtime winner in the 96th minute to take a 3-2 win in a Cascade Conference women’s soccer match on Saturday night at David Douglas High School in Portland, Ore.
The Geoducks (3-9-0, 2-5-0 CCC) took the lead in the 15th minute after Warner Pacific (3-7-0, 2-5-0 CCC) was credited with an own goal. The advantage remained through halftime and for over an hour until Victoria Parker took a pass from Trisha Durham at the top of the box and scored her first goal of the season in the 79th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Evergreen retook the lead in the 85th minute after Sophie Krauza (Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial HS) headed a ball to Rayna Murphy (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris HS) and Murphy took advantage of a breakaway to score her second goal of the season.
As the Geoducks began to taste victory, the Knights evened it up yet again as Durham passed a ball to Cathy Lara at the top of the six yard box in the 89th minute and Lara beat Evergreen keeper Kayla Kitts (Renton, Wash./Kentridge HS/Highline CC) left to force the extra time.
In overtime, the Geoducks had a header shot by Krauza blocked and just one minute later, the Knights took advantage of a defensive misplay as Ashley Valencia forced the ball up field and Durham finished for the game winner, her fifth goal of the season.
Warner Pacific outshot the Geoducks, 13-6, on the night. Kitts made four saves for Evergreen while Allie Holterman had two stops for the Knights.
The Geoducks return home on Thursday as they play host to Southern Oregon in what is expected to be a ghoulish game.
