OLYMPIA, Wash. – Connecting on 21-of-27 free throws, the Northwest Eagles picked up a Cascade Conference win, holding off the Evergreen Geoducks, 83-74, in a CCC men’s basketball game on Saturday night at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
The first half went back and forth for all 20 minutes as the lead changed three times and neither team pulling far ahead. Ryan McIntosh hit a pair of free throws for NU in the closing seconds to take a 40-35 lead into the break as the Eagles were aided by five first-half threes to earn the halftime lead.
In the second half, the Eagles came out strong and the Geoducks just couldn’t close the gap as NU went to the charity stripe 21 times, making 16 of those attempts en route to the 83-74 win.
Evergreen was led by 17 points and 11 rebounds from Marc Taylor (Boise, Idaho/Skyview HS/Edmonds CC). Frankie Johnson (Renton, Wash/Hazen HS) added 15 points while Dre Taylor (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS/North Idaho College) added 12 points. Kyle Calhoun (Seattle, Wash./Hazen HS/Marshalltown CC) added 11 points and Jordan Dam (Tacoma, Wash./Wilson HS/Centralia College) put up 10 points to round out the Geoducks in double-digit scoring.
Northwest was led by 24 pints from Michael Greene. Nemanja Grujicic added 18 points in the win while McIntosh chipped in 15 points for the Eagles. NU shot 50.9% from the field, making 28-of-55 attempts on the night.
The Geoducks hit the road next week, traveling to Oregon Tech on Friday night and Southern Oregon on Saturday.
