KIRKLAND, Wash. – Getting better each and every day, the Evergreen Geoducks wrapped up the 2012-13 season with a loss, falling to the Northwest Eagles, 89-63, in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night at NU Pavilion in Kirkland, Wash.
Northwest took the lead on a three-pointer by Michael Russo just 23 seconds into the game and the Eagles wouldn’t look back. NU pushed the lead to 11 with 12:44 to go in the opening period as the Geoducks struggled to keep up. Evergreen managed 36.0% shooting in the first half but Northwest was 15-of-30 from the field, including nine three-pointers, as the Eagles took a 51-29 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Geoducks were determined to stay competitive and they did for the final 20 minutes. The differential remained in the 20s for the entire period but Evergreen managed to improve their shooting to 40.0%, making 12-of-30 attempts. On the other end of the floor, NU shot 50.0% yet again, making 14-of-28 attempts, to collect the 89-63 win.
Evergreen was led by 15 points of the bench from Cody Peters (Coupeville, Wash./Western Oregon Univ.) . Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC) and Marc Taylor (Boise, Idaho/Edmonds CC) each finished with 10 points.
Northwest was led by 22 from Ryan Dornik. Russo added 19 while Michael Greene chalked up 16 points in the win. Nemanja Grujicic finished with 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Geoducks finish the season with a record of 2-24 overall and 1-17 in CCC play but graduate just two players, leaving a lot of weapons left in the arsenal for 2013-14.
