So I was in the library when..

I realized that I had a free blog at my very fingertips! I’ve never had a blog before, mainly because I never gave one a shot, so here I am trying it out. I suppose I’ll begin by uploading some art I’ve been working on for the last few days and maybe someone will critique it..
I began this image last year and just now began to refine it. I have some specific questions about it so if anyone wants to take a crack at them (artists or no) please do. My main question is how can I make this setting feel more outdoors? Should I add atmospheric effects? Any-who, hope you enjoy.

I really like this image. I especially like how the eyes of the monster are so similar to the window in the house. This really speaks to this feeling I’ve had that what’s more sinister than the strange and unrecognizable is the familiar, or what the familiar can warp into, or what you realize the familiar was a facade for.
The monster figure on the post adds to this as well. This picture reminds me of suburbia: You have this cute little sign pointing you to a cute little house that bears an eerie resemblance to the sign, but you don’t think anything of it, it’s all just cute and fine. But if you back up enough, you realize that what you thought was the night sky was a beast blocking out the stars, and the house and the sign were in on it all along.
So as for your questions about making the image look more outdoors. Maybe the grass in the foreground could use some variation more like the grass in the background. There’s a chunk there that is all sort of one shade. Maybe the same for the sky, too. I like how the monster looms out of it, though, so I don’t want to see too much delineation between the monster and the sky. Anyway, I love it.
