Visual Music

In addition to raiding the library of everything relating to Edward Murrow and making my Gumby costume for Halloween, I have been working on our next project: Visual Music. We have to take inspiration from 50s television (specifically Ernie Kovacs. He was one of the first to do amazing experimental things on TV. Check out his version of the 1812 Overture here) We are shooting in black and white and are working with one song and must use only that as audio and create the visuals…live (AH! That Ernie Kovacs clip was actually done live as well, and with only 3 cameras). Our song is Habanero from Carmen. We had a group meeting this morning and meshed out some really good (and do-able) ideas that are simplistic but solid and should be fairly simple to pull off. Not that I don’t expect snags… I know crazy stuff is going to happen but I am more ready for it this time. I don’t want to give away too much yet but I will say that our scene takes place in a classroom and leave it at that. I had my official interview at the CPJ today, even though I have been working the job for over a month now. Hopefully I get it…I don’t really have any doubts but who knows.

Alright, back to Edward Murrow research.
