ILC

The purpose of this independent learning contract is for me to take greater responsibility for my education by demonstrating my ability to synthesize and integrate all my previous learning and experience into a focussed project.  My intention and goal is to develop my newly founded non profit organization Center Of Conscious Oneness which is based on a Permaculture Community and Sustainable Agritourism Education Center in Maui Hawaii.   This will involve considerable research, mentorship, interviews with business owners, drafting legal documentation (working with a Pro-bono lawyer), the development of a business plan and implementation of a strategic plan of professional level quality. In this way I will be able to draw upon my 3 quarters of business studies at Evergreen as well as my 4 years of personal business ownership and apply the theory and practice into actualized and specific results.  In this program I will evaluate business from a moral and ethical viewpoint, examining how a company can be both socially responsible as well as financially successful.  I will also evaluate what exactly it means to be a “successful” business in relation to modern socio-politcal economics and their environmental and cultural impacts.  One aspect of this program will incorporate 2-3 weeks of hands on work and field studies on site of the future farm location in Hawaii where I will document and design a proposal for a farm based community development plan practicing many principles of sustainable business.  This unique opportunity will allow me to integrate and apply more of my community based learning and skills while developing a stronger and more comprehensive, interdisciplinary experience with direct exposure and collaboration with the communities and cultures that will be directly impacted and benefited from these proposed projects.
