Just when you thought Coolympia mania was over, the producers received some very good news, indeed. We are pleased to announce that Coolympia has won two categories in the Hometown Video Awards competition, for “Innovative” and “Music Video”, respectively! Fancy and adequate, indeed!
Hometown Video Awards is a national public access competition with more than 40 categories in Youth, Non Professional, and Professional divisions. We won in the Non Professional division, for our Election episode (Innovative), and Cats Don’t Like Candy (Music Video). We are honored and thrilled beyond belief to have won as first time entrants, and are excited to attend the Awards Ceremony in Portland, OR this July. We plan to gussy ourselves up in true Coolympia fashion, and will have plenty of pics to post from the event. Until then, for anyone and everyone who’s ever had a hand in Coolympia, we’d like to extend our greatest thanks and congratulations for your work on an award-winning public access program! As T&E would say, Great Job!

COOLYMPIA has submitted an entry to The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences competition (Northwest Chapter). We went with the Halloween episode, due to its diverse collection of animations, as well as its use of parody and experimental comedy. After having put it aside for several months now, it was terrific to revisit it. In retrospect, I think we were so buried in it that we seldom had time to step back and appreciate the genuinely strong content being created. I know everyone on the team agrees when I say that it is, honestly, pretty darn impressive for a collective of motley college kids. Or maybe just pretty darn impressive, period.
We’ll also be sending off our Election episode, as well as some individual segments, to the 2009 Hometown Awards. The deadline is in mid-March, but we are beginning to compile material for submission. It’s pretty sweet — there are 40 categories to enter a program into, and by our count, COOLYMPIA qualifies for a handful of them!
The prizes in both cases are plaques, which are shiny. Also shiny is the fact that we’ll be able to add it to our growing list of accomplishments as we forge ahead with our careers.
With fingers crossed and breath properly baited, we bid you adieu for now.
