OLYMPIA, Wash. – Local harriers Andrew Prentice and Anne Larson took advantage of a great morning to pick up the individual titles during the 2011 Evergreen Classic 5K on Sunday on the campus of The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash.
The 28-year-old Prentice won the race by just under nine seconds, outlasting Dean Janz with a time of 17:22.32 to take first. Prentice, who also won May’s Run For Your Mom 5K, maintained his lead atop the Evergreen 5K Series standings, building a nearly three-minute advantage over Craig Dickson heading into The Torchlight Night 5K on July 3.
Larsen won the women’s portion of the race with a time of 20:41.76, finishing sixth overall among the 50 runners competing. Ulrike Krotscheck took second with a time of 21:54.35 while Kaleigh Bishop finished a close third with a time of 21:57.33. Despite taking third on Sunday, Bishop extended her lead in the series standings, holding a nearly six-minute lead over Ruhama Sosnow heading into July’s final race.
