Chaksibote Secondary School
Why?
Melissa Moffett worked here for 2 years during her 3 1/2 years that she served in Peace Corps. She has done a lot to develop this school and it’s prevalent today when you observe the classes. Our students come and volunteer here to teach English and come away with a really positive experience.
WPPC (Women’s Prevention and Protection Center) Nepal Foundation
Why?
This is an organization that we worked with when we were on our trip. I personally have lived there from 2012-2013 for 9 months and I have a strong connection with them. I have contributed quite a bit to the organization as a whole and it is partnered with Nari Alliance that sells fair trade items for employment opportunities for women. I’ve been an ambassador since March 2012 until this past November 2014 I have joined the board of directors as an ambassador coordinator. Melissa Moffett has also joined onto the board so we both are rather active in this organization. The’s service trips have been going there for the past 3 years and each time it is a wonderful experience.
Mission:
“Fighting against human trafficking and changing lives one woman, one child at a time.”
Objectives:
- To fight against and prevent trafficking and sexual exploitation of women and children.
- To provide safe housing to rescued women and children.
- To empower women by providing a livelihood through vocational training, income generating opportunities, employment and continued education.
- To help heal survivors of human trafficking and assist them to return to their society with respect and dignity.
- To advocate for, and to provide, healthcare resources for survivors.
- To increase awareness about the issue of trafficking and HIV/AIDS to at risk children and families within Nepal as well as globally
