I am proud of FSU, but mostly I am proud of my partners and myself. I’ve been so lucky to work with two wonderful people who are supportive and inspiring. So I just want to thank you Sean for being you and helping me through this year with your crazy antics. Chandra you know I would never had made it through with out you and your culinary arts of s’mores thank you. You two are the best and I can’t wait to see what we come up with next. I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!
So this week I got to help out Sean Parker with his project which was a great time I learn something every time I get that opportunity. now I’m just working on the finishing touches with my ‘peeps’ and I’m super excited to see everyones fine cuts……. AND STUFF!!!!!!!
So last week was awesome……. I spent several hours animating in the labs. I am really excited how it came out now I’m just slicing and dicing to fit the scene were hourglass fits. I already storyboarded a time line now its just a matter of fitting it together with the dialog. and really I’m off to do this as well as draw up some pitch ideas…..
Rough Cuts and Sorts
So we did the rough cut and it went swimmingly…. we also had a small party to share our work and get extra feedback which was super awesome. Speaking of super awesome “The Sean Parker” of Sean Parker Films is my new savior he is loaning me his camera so I can finish my animation. So I’m going in tomorrow to try and finish her up. I’m trying a new technique and I can’t wait to see how it works out.
DRAGON
I did it….. I animated with dragon and yeah it is awesome. So I spent the first 6 hours in the animation lab doing test shots and working with the camera all I got was 40 shots of rotoscoping. Well you would think this would be frustrating and it was. But, I then rethought how I was going about this and because the video I was using was poor quality I decided to revamp. The next day going into the lab I decided to morph animate several photos and this was very productive I actually got more than 100 shots RAD I know. So I need to either find new footage or redo my videos to make it easier to see with the overlays. Now this would be ideal but as many of you know things are never perfect. I really need at the very least two more times in the lab but the problem is the cameras are not available…… This is actually the most challenging part of my project. You would think it was all the changes that the project went through in the course of this year you know “starting, changing starting over starting again and so on….” Here is the thing I pay a lot of money to attend school and have equipment available to me and I seem to always get stopped in my tracks. I know I’m not the only one with this problem but it still sucks. So this is where I am. Should I buy a camera that I can’t afford just to finish this project on time? I’ll let you know this answer when I get it. So after shooting I put my first shots on a timeline and now I’m starting to edit it to make it work and it is pretty amazing but not what I had in my head. I started Hourglass with that in mind, sand animates it’s self and how more obvious can it get but by watching what I have. I’m very pleased with what I have and I am enjoying working with it I just need a little more everyone please cross your fingers this will work for me.
Lap Tops Are Rad
Can I say the best thing about having a lap top is that it goes anywhere…… And right now I’m sitting on the deck in the sunshine doing homework YES life is great! So this week was amazingly productive I had the pleasure of getting critique from Jan who was awesome I’ll get to that in a second. I’ve booked my lab time and tomorrow I will start animating Hour Glass. Now back to how awesome Jan is…. I was totally excited to meet with her and to get the opportunity to watch several of her films. The first thing I have to say about her work is I love the way she uses archival footage. Jan has such a great way of implementing the footage in such a way that brings more life to her work. I liked all her work but two really spoke to me I’m not sure if it’s because I’m a woman and both were about women or if it’s because both issues are and have been prevalent in my life. “In Harms Way” was a tremendously strong piece about being violated and how you can never be the same after the impact that strong of a situation. I admire Jan for making this piece I understand why she did and applaud her for it I don’t think if I were in her situation I would be strong enough to do that. “Mirror Mirror” was a great piece on body image and how it affects woman differently. Body image is a constant struggle for many woman and from what I understand men too. I think it has taken me 32 years to be comfortable in my own skin and still I judge myself on a daily basis. Not only does Jan make great work but she gives great critique as well. I showed her Mashes and she had a lot to offer me. Cut this here and lengthen this there stuff like that but the best is when she helped me figure out the jump cut with the purse shot and it made all the difference. Now back to work!
and so……
Minor set back…… I got sick this week, which puts my production a week out damn! I believe I’ve got it figured out I plan on taking some time off of work in order to put me back on track week 4. I will get all my time figured out tomorrow with the Rebel and the animation lab when I get my much needed proficiency in the morning. While being laid up this week I did find the time to go over several tutorials on Dragon and I feel pretty confident that I grasped the program and I am super excited to begin. I do appreciate everyone’s feedback on ‘Meshes’ and still am open for more…….. I also looked at cameras and I think I will soon own my very own Rebel or something very similar if all goes right and I don’t miss much more work.
