The Evergreen Student Music Project is an annual musical endeavor that is performed, recorded, mixed and produced entirely by students of The Evergreen State College..this is a long standing evergreen tradition and a really cool and fun project to be involved with.
The components of the Evergreen Student Music Project are as follows:
- Evergreen students submit a recording of their music to the Audio Intern office on the 3rd floor of the Com building during the Fall quarter office hours. Submissions can be song sketches, crappy recordings, works in progress, home recordings, or any type of recording that represents the song you wish to have recorded for the project. Submissions must be in CD or Cassette format and be clearly labeled with the name of the artist and full contact information including Email address and Phone number.
- At the end of Fall quarter, all submitted music will be listened to and reviewed by a committee comprised mostly of the advanced audio recording class and various faculty and staff members. Upon listening to all of the submissions, a selection of between 10 and 20 songs will be chosen to be produced, recorded and mixed by the members of the advanced audio recording class and the audio interns during the Winter quarter.
- The project will then be pressed and distributed at the end of the school year!
- For the 2010 ESMP the multitrack audio production students and audio interns decided to put the record out on vinyl. this is the first year in maybe 20 that this has been done. it has been on cd or cassette for the majority of the last several decades. the choice is yet to be made whether the album will be on vinyl, cassette, cd, or maybe even thumb drive…feel free to make suggestions with your music project submission. the artwork for the album is similarly done by evergreen students and for the 2010 album, then entirety of the artwork was produced on campus in the evergreen printmaking studio. as you can see the art is amazing and if you get a chance to hear the album, it turned out amazing as well. there were even a handful of heavy metal songs on it.
