Last Sunday Jaden, Jennifer, and Amber collaborated with the other Electronic Media interns to produce a television show featuring two live bands, Pill Wonder and Gun Outfit. We broadcasted the event live over the air and through an online video stream.

Here are some fun pictures from the shoot.

Jennifer was the director, Jaden was the technical director, and Amber coordinated a fourth camera and worked in engineering. Our trusty audio engineers Chris Duncan, Kris Geffen, and Ben English were also involved, as was our dependable camera operator Kamaria Daniel.

If you tune in on Sunday, April 25th you can watch the streaming video! The stream is available here.

Last weekend we had the privilege of hosting Anna Lenau and Cypress Marie Powers. Anna played two of her songs on piano, and both she and Cypress performed their spoken word poetry and were interviewed about their work. We had an amazing crew of people helping out as well. Ben English was our Audio Engineer and Kamaria Daniel and Greer Kofoed were our Camera Operators.

Here are some stills from the shoot:

The Interview.

Jane Paik (punk rock dancer from Portland), Bridget Irish (Olympia filmmaker), Raleigh Briggs (zine writer, author from Seattle), Kanako Wynkoop (owner of Dumpster Values, Olympia filmmaker and musician) and Kanako’s band Broken Water are just a few of the guests we are excited to have in the studio in the month of May!

Jessica Hoffmann and Jaden discuss some of the implications of using the word ‘feminism’ to describe their politics.

On March 31, Double Take! shot its first studio interview. Our guests were Hilary Goldberg, a queer experimental filmmaker, and Jessica Hoffmann, writer and co-publisher of make/shift magazine. (However, Their list of activities and achievements spans much farther than that brief synopsis.)  The two stopped by while in Olympia on their make/shift recLAmation tour. Jaden was the host, Jennifer was the technical director, and it was my directorial debut.  I’m reviewing the footage for edits this week.  The experience taught me much about communicating as a director– the balance between bruising egos and making decisions, corralling crew, instructing precisely. The interview’s content was also inspiring, offering insights into how to be a radical media-maker in a mainstream world. I’ll admit my intellectual intake was temporarily suspended while paying attention to the form and function of the shoot. I’ll have a better content-driven synthesis after the edit.

Stephanie Zorn was our Audio Engineer and Margaritte Knezek and Rachel Torreon were our Camera Operators for this shoot.

In other news, Double Take! will have a listing in the International Girl Gang Underground Zine. The mission of this project is to “document and dissect how Riot Grrrl’s legacy has manifested twenty years later, as well as provide guidance for those who want to transform ‘revolution girl style now!’ into ‘REVOLUTION GIRL STYLE FOREVER!’”

This project is super rad, check it out!

Sarah Utter!

April 5, 2010

We had a great time interviewing Sarah Utter and getting a tour of her art studio. Sarah also will be coming into the CCAM studio for a live television interview in the next few weeks.

Last week we interviewed Jessica Hoffmann and Hilary Goldberg from the makeshift recLAmation tour. You can check out their work here http://www.makeshiftreclamation.com/

We have several more live interviews lined up, including DIY project footage and performances! We will have video clips up on soon so that you can hear these inspiring women talk about their work!

First Week of Production

March 4, 2010

This week started off with a collaborative project with artist Ryuta Iwashita. We shot a performance movement piece by Ryuta in front of the green screen. It’s going to be edited together with Super 8 footage we shot outside of the studio as a video art piece about the expression of the artist’s identity.

This weekend we are also taping Sarah Utter in her art studio. Sarah is well known for her designs (“Reading is Sexy” is just one example) and her involvement in the Olympia music scene (she has played for bands Western Hymn and Bangs). You can check out more of her work here http://sarahutter.com/hello/SARAH_UTTER_-_WELCOME!.html
We are really excited to be working with Sarah!
