This video shows the my veggie plot prior to weeding and mulching. It was used for hops last year and most of the weeds consisted of buttercup, comfrey, and grasses. There are also some hops, salmon berry, and raspberry which I left in place.
I chose 8 Chinese plants to grow, all from either Uprising Seeds or Kitazawa Seed Co. From left to right and top to bottom they are, dok (luffa/sponge gourd), tai guo (bitter gourd), red noodle bean (pole bean), ho lan dow (snow pea), savoy tatsoi (like pak choi but harvested for the flower head like broccoli), yu choi sum (Chinese greens), red beauty (Chinese amaranth), and bok choi.
Once Weeds were taken care of, using a hori hori knife, I laid down compost and mulched with straw.
I then made three rows in the straw. The two closest to the fence were planted with the amaranth, bok choi, savoy tatsoi, and yu choi sum. The row closest to the path received the red noodle bean and ho lan down snow peas. My plan is to drop the trellis fencing down onto the peas and beans when they are ready and for the greens to be ready for harvest by the time they are being shaded by the peas and beans.
