Class in the Fall

This Fall 2017 I plan on taking part in the program: The Survival of Indigenous Art. I am very excited to take this program which will include visual arts,  cultural history, and community volunteering components with internship opportunities. I have taken multiple programs studying indigenous history and culture in the past, but this will be the first program where I actually get to experience class in the longhouse which I am very excited for and can’t wait to see what this quarter has to offer!

A Favorite Summer Pastime

I myself am a big fan of baseball and many other sports so one thing that I love about living in Olympia is being so close to Cheney Stadium in Tacoma for Rainiers games.  The tickets are always a very fair price for very good seats and it’s only about a 30-45 minute drive to the stadium from Olympia. Every game I have gone to has always been a great time!

Olympia Supports Artistic Creativity

Today I took a walk around downtown where I live and struck up a conversation with a street artist who uses spray paint as a medium to create and sell paintings he makes. I myself do these style of paintings and have always wanted to do something like this but have found it very hard to find a location where I can display my process and work to the public but also not violate any city laws. After telling him about my frustrations as a young artist he informed me that anyone who wants to do something like this just has to apply, and obtain an Olympia business license at a very low cost and they are free to take their craft public. This is something I was thrilled to hear about and I am hoping to start the process to get my own license that would allow me to do my art as well as sell my work publicly throughout the city.

Downtime

Having spent most of my life living in the Pacific Northwest, naturally I love camping, hiking, and spending as much time outdoors as I possibly can. One of my favorite things about attending Evergreen is having access to such beautiful natural forests and land. I personally choose to do my reading for class out in our forest while I relax in my hammock.
