Well well well, it was a great year to be a Geoduck basketball fan as the Men’s Basketball team made it to the National Tournament for the first time in six years. Advancing to the Sweet 16 after a very impressive comback win in the first round. The second game was a wake up call to the team. Proving that to get any further there is still much work to be done. On the up-side, that work looks very doable with a strong returning cast of players and new recruiting class for the 2009-10 campaign. Led by Cascade Conference Player of The Year http://cascadeconference.org/news/mbball/2009/3/2/030209_cccmenbk.asp?path=mbball and NAIA First Team All-American http://naia.ctv.com/sports/m-baskbl-div2/spec-rel/031709aam.html , Nate Menefree, The Evergreen State College Geoducks look to improve on a season of ups and downs and get further into the elimination rounds of the National Tourney. At the end of the season Evergreen had lost a handful of games by a total of 7 points and dashed their chances of a higher national seeding and a regular season CCC Championship (won by OIT). Competing in what many tab as the toughest conference in the country, nothing will come easy next season. The CCC sent four teams to the tourney this year in a field of 32 teams. Next year, some of the bubble teams from the CCC look to make huge gains in the standings with the addition of some highly touted recruits and the return of very solid players from previous seasons.

In the past two seasons Evergreen has won 40+ games and is loking to contiune the streak of 20+ wins a season next year. While this is only one of many goals, it certainly wouldn’t hurt our chances of advancing to the National Tourey for a second consecutive year.

I look forward to making some noise next year. We are also trying to organize groups of students and fans to caravan to all of the road games in support of the team. So if your into it let me know and I ‘ll get you some further info.

Until the next time……PEACE
