GSU Meeting Minutes
Wednesday December 7, 2011 – CAB 301 1:15-3:00pm
Each member introduced themselves and stated how long they have been apart of the GSU.Chelsea gave a brief description how the GSU works and operates. She announced to the new members about the pot luck the first week of next quarter. We also discussed our trip toTacoma week 2.
John Hurley emailedChelsea and told him that he was reviewing the contracts and he will contact us once it’s been reviewed.
Chelsea, Willy and Kesly met with the EF coordinator of events (Brianna) and they talked about helping connect with the Evergreen students. Brianna is looking into creating a my.evergreen.edu account to be able to advertise using TESCCRIER emails.
At this point there are 2 applicants for the Liaison position and the GSU wants to have conducted the interviews by the end of week 11. One applicant needs reply by Monday for this interview.
One last interview will take place on Monday December 12 at 11am for a student on the Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Workgroup. Mary Lou, Kyle and Chelsea are conducting the interview. Andrew motioned to allow members to formally approve the student into the committee. Kesly seconds. Motioned passed.
CEC was having a tour after the meeting to show what the CEC has done in the past and Kyle was inviting all GSU members to participate.
Student Run Food Program:
The Armark contract is up next quarter and it was suggested that there should be a student run program. At the same time, have a student run food program would require a lot of time from students so other options should be weighed, like other food suppliers.Tacomastudents talked about how they would like to have cafeteria but because it’s a building that’s being rented out, it’s not allowed. It was suggested that we talked to people at the Flaming Eggplant about having a food bus on theTacomacampus. Kyle is going to invite them to the next GSU meeting to talk about what they might be able to do.
Kentbrought up a past issue of having students pay for a technology fee each year. Many members were quick to say no because of how much students already have to pay each year, having them pay more would seem unreasonable.
The idea of a resource center to learn about different religions was brought up. It would be a non-denominational informational place for students to learn. Members talked about how it would be an issue of separation of church and state, wouldn’t want to push or force anyone’s beliefs or spirituality and student activities office would be a better place to create a place like this.
