Mara from WSA:

Mara came to the GSU meeting to announce a few updates of what the WSA has been doing. She announced that a student trustee bill has been passed and S&A funds and records must be public now. They are now working with a statewide foundation to start a voter registration campaign and Mara wants Evergreen to become apart of this in the fall for Evergreen students. Evergreen will have their own url on the website to have voters register and possibly have voter boxes on campus that will be collected October 8th, 2011. She also announced a general assembly meeting at Central Washington University on May 19th. The GSU has 2 votes in general assembly for Evergreen.

Mural:

Tasha, Jazmin and Nate are working on organizing a meeting time to work with Art. Nate will contact Art to plan a specific time.

 Interviews:

There are 3 applicants for the Election Commissioner Position. The GSU office manager will schedule them for Monday around lunch time andChelseaand Nate will conduct the interviews. Amy made a motion to letChelseaand Nate approves the new applicants, Andrew seconds it. Motion passes.

Ballot Item:

Nate is going to write the ballot item to have alternates when students drop out of the GSU and bring it to the GSU next week. He is also going to write up a new bylaw that allows students to petition to be on the GSU in the spring, as well as the fall and winter.

Freshman Orientation Week:

The GSU wants to set up a table for the Freshman Orientation week, like they had last fall. The GSU will need to contactPhylis Lanein the near future.

Amy motioned to pass last weeks meeting minutes. Nate seconds. Motion passes.

SLAR’s:

Public Comment:

Art Constantino announced that he is in favor of creating murals around campus but needs students help to draft guidelines for these murals. He wants to know what students find valuable and really wants their input. The commitment would be a seldom few hours within the next quarter. Jazmin is going to talk to “Dirty Hands” and invite them to come to the GSU meeting to see if they want to be involved with the committee to draft guidelines. The office manager is sending out a TESCCRIER to offer to the whole student body.

Academic Statement Contest:

Phyllis Laneannounced that there is an academic statement contest that is open to the whole student body for a cash prize. She has asked the GSU to assist in spreading the word and advertising.

Tacoma Visit:

The driver of the van is Louis and we will only need one van. The van is leaving from C lot at 1:15 next Wednesday. Mara from WSA is attending theTacomameeting as well.

Resign:

Eli West has resigned from GSU.

Student Election Commissioners

Student Election Commissioners

The student election commissioners serving in a neutral role are responsible for the development and implementation of a fair and open campus wide student body election.

Specific duties include:

  • Disseminate information to the campus community, including the Reservation Based and Tacoma Programs, about elections and ballot measures
  • Work collaboratively with the Registrars Office and Administrative Computing and in the development of the on-line ballot
  • Recruit, hire and schedule poll workers
  • Supervising poll workers and polling stations to ensure a fair and accessible election
  • Enforcing Elections and Voting policies and guidelines as well as identifying misconduct and policy violations
  • Encouraging the student body to get out and vote
  • Meeting with the Geoduck Student Union Elections Committee to help develop procedures and guidelines
  • Certifying the elections and disseminating results

Preferred skills and abilities: Previous public service experience, computer proficiency, strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Minimum qualifications: Must be a currently enrolled TESC student in good academic standing.

Term of Service: April 23 to June 8, 2012

 

Compensation: $358 stipend

Application Deadline:    April 16, 2012

  1. A succinct cover letter addressing your interest in the position and describing your qualifications and work experience as they relate to position purpose and duties.
  2. A resume that includes a chronological work history.
  3. Names and contact information of two references. One of the references must be from a current TESC faculty or staff member.

GSU Meeting Minutes

April 4, 2012

SDS:

The GSU is still in the process of determining if Matt’s suspension was too long. At this point Matt has not emailed the GSU directly.

New Vice President of Student Affairs:

Next spring will be Art Constantino’s last year here at Evergreen as the vice president. Tom suggested that the GSU be apart of the process of hiring a new vice president within the next year. The GSU is planning on being a part of the hiring committee in the future.

WASHpirg Organizer:

The WASHprig Organizer for Evergreen came to visit the GSU today. Her name is Arianna and she came to introduce herself and the projects (see meeting minutes 2-22-12) that she and WASHpirg are working on. She is looking to integrate Evergreen student’s involvement and help assist with projects here at Evergreen.

Tacoma:

April 18th, week 3, the GSU is traveling down toTacomafor the GSU meeting from 2-4pm in room 104. The vans leave from C lot at 1:15pm.

GSU Application:

The application to apply to be a GSU member was edited, but only the date was changed. Nate motioned to approve the change to the GSU Application. Willy Seconds. Motion Passes.

March 14, 2012

Election Commissioners:

Week 1 of next quarter the office manager is going to advertise the Student Election Commissioner position opening. The application is due April 16 and the job starts April 26. It will be advertised on the CODa website, tesccrier and fliers.

Special Initiative Budget:

GSU special initiative budget meeting is today at 3:30pm.

Tacoma Meeting:

The GSU is going toTacomaon April 18 (week 3) of spring quarter.

ATM’s:

The date of moving the ATM has been adjusted to April 18th.

Updated Members:

Jessica has created an updated list for spring 2012 members

Operational Budget:

Eli motioned to pass the updated version of the Operational Budget. Motion second. Motion passed.

Josh is going to ask about MiT Program

Future:

GSU is going to try to keep track of attendance of members on charts on google groups and table more of outreach committees.
