Adorno, “On the Question, ‘What is German?'”

Yildiz, “The Foreign in the Mother Tongue Words of Foreign Derivation and Utopia in Theodor W. Adorno”

Chametzky, “Lost and Found Data Objects and Subjects.”

Adorno explores the social, ethical, and moral implications of language “purity” versus the influence of multilingualism on a language.

Yildiz claims that Adorno’s essays are consistent with her hypothesis that foreign words in a language indicate “internal multilingualism,” and that using many foreign derived words in pieces are “critically postmonolingual projects.”

In “Lost and Found Dada Objects and Subjects,” Chametzky gives a concise history of Dadaism and Jewish Identity.

Critically postmonolingual projects: Written pieces that integrate foreign derived words and internal multilingualism to posit postmonolingual critical theory.

Internal multilingualism: A language that integrates foreign derived words into its own.

Foreign derived words: Words with roots in a foreign language, for example, words with Latin roots in the German language.

(More terms to come come as I forgot my reader.)

My best moment this week was Kleinseminar. Harris made the content accesible and I am finding more and more that concepts in critical theory are being integrated into my thinking about ethics (even if I still cannot integrate it).

Outside of the program i had a great time on May day. I was inspired by the call to reclaim space for the people. Bottles were not permitted making it a safer scene than previous years.
