Skinhead Attitude. Dir. Daniel S. Schweizer. DVD. Sunny Bastards, 2003.

This is a documentary about the different types of existing skinheads from racist to anti-racist as well as political driven skinheads. It gives 40 years of history and insight into the subculture without the major media bias that is usually given by articles.

Blush, Steven. American Hardcore A Tribal History. New York: Feral House, 2001.

This book is mainly about hardcore music but it has sections about skinheads, mainly the ones that lived in New York during the 80‘s.

Modernism to Skinhead by Timothy Grisham
An academic study on skinheads, teenage life, subcultures, youth cults and other things around the skinhead lifestyle. Features many citations from other books and films too. Very informative.

Skinheads USA (FILM)
Terrible and biased study on skinheads in Alabama, plays more into the stereotypical image of the skinhead as a racist rather than as a positive movement. This is a mainstream documentary that was featured on AMC

World of Skinhead(FILM)
This was a really good study on skinheads, it took place in both UK and America, and featured all kinds of different skinheads, racist and non-racist. It talks about music, tattoos, fighting, media and politics related to the skinhead lifestyle. I feel like this is the closest to what I am trying to achieved from my film.

“Skinheads 1988 NYC News Interview.” Skinheads 1988 NYC News Interview. New York City, NY. 1988. Skinheads. 3 Apr. 2007. Youtube. 13 Apr. 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH61qZtvugg.
This is a great little newscast/documentary on skinheads living in new york in the hardcore scene. It shows the racist and the non-racist ones and the music shows and scenes that they are a part of. One part the journalist even goes into an openly racist skinhead show and interviews a few people. Although it is the news, it manages to have a very small amount of bias.

Jenniges, Amy. “Trouble in Clubland.” The Stranger [Seattle] 2 June 2004.

“Willamette Week | Skin Of A Different Color | Willamette Week | October 10th, 2007.” Willamette Week | Monday, April 13th, 2009. 14 Apr. 2009 .

“The Skinheads – TIME.” Breaking News, Analysis, Politics, Blogs, News Photos, Video, Tech Reviews – TIME.com. 14 Apr. 2009 http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,909318,00.html?promoid=googlep

These three article are more mainstream than the rest of the sources. They all vary in their bias but most seem to be more about the threat of skinheads in today’s society. Most of them mention the SHARPS (skinheads against racial prejudice) but not as a positive movement and more as a violent gang that travels between different pubs and bars and makes violent threats. Interesting and I may highlight sections of my article for something about media bias against skinheads.

Field Research/ Talking to people
I have made friends and been able to chat quite a bit with a few skinheads. They can provide much more information that doesnt have the media bias and has real life experiences, which I feel are a lot more valid.

Latest edit

May 4th, 2009

The program exported some of the footage wrong so its a bit mis-edited. But check it out give feedback

http://www.vimeo.com/4484571

This is the timeline with music in the background correlating with the era. Some spelling errors, but thats the original print and it would be hard to change. One thing I want to know is if there should be speaking in the background too reading the writing, or if its fine like it is. Should this be included in my project or is it a waste of time?
Keep in mind, if you watch it on a big screen, the text isnt so small, and some of the timing is off and clips run too long because this is only a rough cut
Please give me some feedback.

Current work

May 2nd, 2009

I have been editing a lot lately. Making an edit of the skinhead timeline, as well as sorting all the footage i have so far. It is looking good so far and I feel confident about it. I need to interview Andrew still and I will probably call him today to set something up. Also, tomorrow I am going to tacoma to film Aires and Graces again.
Still waiting for Rainfest where my main shoot will be. Pressure Point has given me permission to edit and film them.

Tim gave me this. I think the class may find it interesting.

Ya, any questions are welcome! The main focus I wanted for the project was to represent skinhead culture to the world as a non-racist movement. My main reason for making it is because I feel like nobody around here knows about anything other than racist boneheads and have never heard of Sharp or anything like that. I think I would interview you guys about your involvement with skinhead culture as well as a little history on your band.

Ian! I think we are down, but, due to the exceptionally high level of media distortion and exploitation regarding the skinhead sub culture we’re gonna have a few questions before jumping on board. Hope you understand and look forward to working it out. Cheers -Mike-

workin’

April 14th, 2009

I scheduled an appointment with TIm to meet up with him on Thursday to get footage off of his computer as well as write a script for the film. We were supposed to do it today but I have been sick for two days with a really bad head cold. Hopefully I will feel better before the show on Saturday that I will be filming my first scene at the Aires and Graces/Trainyard show downtown. I really want to get a wide angle lense for that.
