During this last week I had the opportunity to travel to Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico. Luckily, I worked out a schedule with my professors at school so that I could visit my grandma for her birthday in her own home, with her friends and family that surround her. It was emotional to say the least, and brought tears, laughter, and even a little bit of tequila.
Family has always been important in my life, and is even more cemented in my heart after experiencing one of my “motherlands”. Holland, you are up next. Be sure to check back soon. I want to unpack this trip further and discuss some identity implications of being mixed race, and the feelings a trip like this can bring to the surface.
