as of today much progress has been made. recently it became crystal clear how much tech support i was going to need for my show. i have spent the last several moments acquiring a vast team of helpful folks and now i am simply awaiting final answers from dancers and models so i can arrange a headcount and the media to match. a friend of mine played a song for me on guitar today and i found it to be the perfect inspiring track to accompany my animation. i have also been studying up on documentary films as of late for my upcoming project…… how to interview and extract the meaning you seek. a delicate task indeed. other than that since ill be older after tomorrow i guess ill be wiser too.

there is no desire in my bones to sit and edit in front of a screen. my raw footage keeps piling up and i keep finding my fingers entangled in branches and silk, weaving cocoons and dreaming of hoop skirts, moss corsets and 16 mm film projected across them. my intention to animate keeps being persuaded to stitch dresses instead. spring always inspires work with fiber arts and this year is no exception. ( on an delightful note i just found out that the Oregon college of arts and crafts, beginning this fall will offer an M.F.A. program in fiber studies and this inspires smiles and future possibilities.) this projects progress has left me contemplating the connection between flickering image (light) and our concept of a screen. must a screen be static? must an image be moving? generally the intent seems to be to allow the image to be seen and the screen to be the vessel that allows sight. but what if the point was to see the screen and not the specific image at all? i feel a bit lost to cohesion as of late. however, i have spoken with several dancers who are willing to model and lend their sense of motion to the fashion show so i am confident that the live portion of this project is well on its way.

spring has once again encouraged emergence and tendency towards creation. i have discovered the early morning hours from six am until ten when sometimes, if i stand very still and listen, i can hear the muses sing rock operas of inspiration. In these moments i hear my instinct and hands follow suit. ( or dress, rather.)

i continue to capture images on video and attempt to interpret exactly what each dress means to me, whether on the body or on the screen. i will be doing two art installations at the capitol theater for the month of june and i have begun to collect pieces and decorations for this, the boxes along either side of the stage called the gardens will be home to these. i am envisioning pirouette glimpses into a jewelery box ballerina world, involving crocheted wire, woven willow, super 8 projection, adorned dresses, cocoons, nests, wings, and adored dresses.
