TESC program, Venezuela: Building Economic & Social Justice, presents:
Todo la patria es una escuela (The Whole Country is a School): Stories from Venezuela
After two months in Venezuela engaging with the politics, culture, and people, the faculty and students of the Venezuela program will share their experiences at the S & J Symposium on May 27th, 10am-noon in the Recital Hall.
The faculty and students will talk about what Sustainability and Justice have come to mean to them through their studies and experiences in Venezuela–and to show images which represent their experiences. They will discuss food sovereignty (agriculture, land reform), the extensive, free and high-quality system of health care in Venezuela (and their personal experiences with it), the development of a “social economy” and cooperatives, new forms of popular, participatory democracy that they observed in local communities, and the growth of community-based independent media. They will also talk about their outreach initiatives, including dialogues with loca community organizations here in Thurston County, a conference, an art show and a book.
