First Fall Quarter Details

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday, September 28th, 12 – 2:30 pm, Seminar 2 C1105.

1. Many of our READINGS will be individual articles, but here are…

5 Required Fall Texts:

1. Sturken and Cartwright, Practices of Looking (For those of you who have the  ”old” edition with the blue/white cover, note that there is a new 2009 edition we’ll be using) ISBN: 0195314409

2. Ascher and Pincus, The Filmmaker’s Handbook (be sure to get the most recent (2008) edition) ISBN: 0452286786

3. Robert Bresson, Notes on the Cinematographer (Publisher page here)

4. Walter Murch, In the Blink of an Eye: A Perspective on Film Editing (revised 2nd edition) ISBN: 1879505622

NEW ADDITION 5. Timothy Corrigan, A Short Guide to Writing About Film (7th Edition) ISBN: 0205668941

The bookstore will be stocking these.

For what it’s worth, I’ve started to look at a book called What do Pictures Want? by WJT Mitchell. We may read a chapter from this book, I’m not sure yet, but you’re not required to buy it. If you’re intrigued enough by the title, take a further look. The chapter “Addressing Media” is particularly relevant.

Faculty members will give brief overviews of their programs and answer your questions.

If you want to begin your study of media next year and are wondering which curricular path to take, this is a great opportunity to get more information, before the academic fair, on the options available to you.
