E-State defense allows zero field goals in OT to pull away 89-82

OLYMPIA, Wash.–The Evergreen State men’s basketball team extended their winning streak to four games Monday night after beating the Pacific University Boxers 89-82 in overtime at the CRC Gymnasium.
Reigning Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week Josh Troyer (Vancouver, Wash. / Lower Columbia CC) finished with 21 points and six rebounds in the home victory. Troyer shot a perfect 6-6 in the first half, including three three-pointers and would score 15 of his 21 before halftime.
The Geoducks traded baskets with the Boxers early but found their rhythm halfway through the first half as they extended an 11-9 lead to 37-24 with key three-pointers from Marice Tolliver (Tacoma, Wash. / Mt. Tahoma HS) and Tyrell Dixon (Tacoma, Wash. / Mt. Tahoma HS) just before halftime.
Pacific came out in the second half with purpose, getting a steal on Evergreen’s first possession of the second half. The Boxers kept the score within 10 points throughout the second half before Evergreen fouls allowed Pacific back into the game. A three-pointer from Adam McElwee (Woodinville, Wash. / Inglemoor HS) knotted the score at 76-76 with nine seconds left to force overtime.
The Geoducks defense stifled the Boxers in the overtime period, allowing just six points and no field goals. A three by Johnny Sarysz (Seattle, Wash. / Lindbergh HS, South Puget Sound CC) forced Pacific into a must-foul situation toward the end of the period, and Evergreen would prevail in handing Pacific their fourth straight loss. Sarysz finished with 16 points.
Marice Tolliver finished with a double-double on the night scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Michael Brumsey (Tacoma, Wash. / Stadium HS) had a season high 14 points, shooting a perfect 7-7 from the field.
Pacific’s LeMar Anglin (Chicago, Ill. / Yakima Valley CC), who averaged 22 points a game coming into the matchup was held to a stingy 11 points on just 1-8 shooting. McElwee stepped up for the Boxers, leading all scorers with 32 points shooting 12-15 from the floor.
The Geoducks look to keep their streak rolling as they host Pacific Lutheran University on Tuesday, December 28th at the CRC Gymnasium at 7:30 pm.
