KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Playing with what head coach Arvin Mosley, Jr. calls his “skeleton crew” of just seven uniformed players, The Evergreen State College Geoducks were no match for the 13th-ranked Oregon Institute of Technology Hustlin’ Owls, fall 101-63 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night in Klamath Falls, Ore.

After Friday’s game, which took all 45 minutes to pick the winner and cost TESC one injured player, the Geoducks (5-12, 2-5 CCC) feel behind quick as the nationally-ranked Owls (17-2, 8-0 CCC) came out as hot as possible, making their first seven shots to hold a 15-3 advantage less than three minutes into the game. The hot OIT shooting eventually cooled off as the half continued but Evergreen’s short roster had a tough time keeping up as the Owls pushed the lead into the 20s with 7:31 left in the period as OIT continued to push to a 54-30 halftime lead.

In the second half, Evergreen stayed right with OIT from the first whistle, matching the Owls virtually basket for basket until the 13:36 mark, when junior Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./ Olympic College) fouled out, leaving the Geoducks with just six healthy players. OIT continued to stretch the lead as Evergreen kept playing hard but when the final buzzer sounded, it was the Owls collecting the 101-63 victory.

Evergreen was led by 16 points from freshman Mikey Hope (Tacoma, Wash./Wilson HS), who also added three assists in the losing effort. Tyrell Dixon (Tacoma, Wash./Mount Tahoma HS) added 12 while Josh Troyer (Vancouver, Wash./Lower Columbia CC) scored 11 with six rebounds on the night. Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor CC) led the way on the glass, bringing home seven rebounds on the night.

Oregon Tech was led by 21 off the bench from Scott Riddle. Joseph Foster and Kyle Gomez each added 16 while Bryant Sentman and Nathan Maddox finished with 10 points each. The Owls received 49 of their 101 total points from their bench, compared with just seven bench points for Evergreen.

The Geoducks return to the friendly confines of CRC Gymnasium on Friday night when they play host to Concordia (Ore.) in the front end of a Cascade Collegiate Conference basketball doubleheader.
