PORTLAND, Ore. – With both teams battling hard for positioning in the upcoming postseason tournament, the Warner Pacific Knights used a hot-shooting night to pull past the Evergreen Geoducks, 86-65, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball game on Friday night in Portland, Ore.
The Geoducks (8-17, 5-10 CCC) got on the scoreboard before the game even tipped off as Warner Pacific (17-8, 10-5 CCC) was called for a technical in pregame, allowing senior Josh Troyer (Vancouver, Wash./Lower Columbia CC) to hit a pair of free throws with 20 minutes still on the clock. The Knights would score the next seven points as WPC took early control of the game.
Evergreen put up a strong fight but Warner Pacific seemingly couldn’t miss as WPC continued to hold on to the lead. The Knights’ lead hit double-digits with 4:36 left in the first period as a three-pointer by Josh Black put Warner Pacific up, 33-22. The Knights continued to push the tempo, taking a 39-26 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Knights continued to control the pace of the contest. The Geoducks picked up the pace around the midway part of the second half but by that point, Warner Pacific was up comfortably. The Knights lead hit 20 with 8:50 remaining as the game looked to be out of reach for the visiting Geoducks as WPC collected the 86-65 win.
Evergreen was led by 15 points from Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./Olympic College). Marice Tolliver (Tacoma, Wash./Lower Columbia CC) added 14 for the Geoducks, who struggled both from the field and from the line in the loss.
The Knights were paced by 20 points from Andre Davis, who also added 11 rebounds to collect the double-double. Webster Moreland addeed 14 points while Biniam Tadele and Traevone Bowie each scored 11 in the win. Warner Pacific shot 57.1% from the field on the night as they picked up their 10th conference win of the year.
The Geoducks will look to get back into the win column on Saturday night when they head to Concordia University and a CCC matchup with the Cavaliers. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Portland, Ore.
