FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Nearly doubling their first half effort in the final 20 minutes, the Pacific Boxers came back to knock out the Evergreen Geoducks, 70-54, in a non-conference men’s basketball game on Tuesday evening in Forest Grove, Ore.
The Geoducks (0-3) fell behind early but kept it close, eventually taking the lead with 10:34 to play on a lay-up by Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC) that put Evergreen up, 15-14. Evergreen continued to lead the Boxers (1-0) over the remainder of the half, eventually taking a 27-24 lead into the break.
The Boxers tied things up on the first shot of the second period on a three-pointer by Colin Wester and Pacific slowly began to pull ahead. The lead hit double-digits for Pacific with 5:30 left to go as a lay-up by Dustin Bowser put the Boxers up, 57-47. After the lead briefly hit 20, the Geoducks battled back but simply ran out of time, falling 70-54.
Evergreen was led by 16 points from Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./Olympic College). Mike DeRosier (Puyallup, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) put up 11 points while Marice Tolliver (Tacoma, Wash./Lower Columbia College) finished with 10 points on the night.
Pacific was led by 27 points from forward David Berney. Charles Mosley added 17 points in the win while Wester chalked up 13 points for the Boxers. Pacific shot at a 66.7% clip in the second half to finish the game shooting 54.9% from the field, converting on 28 of 51 attempts.
The Geoducks remain on the road this weekend as they head to Idaho to take part in the Duane Wolf Golden Rule Shoot Out, hosted by College of Idaho. Evergreen will tip-off tourney action on Friday afternoon when they take on Walla Walla, beginning at 2:00 pm MST.
