SALEM, Ore. – Playing their first game in 12 days, the Evergreen Geoducks couldn’t hold off the hot-shooting Corban Warriors, falling 83-61 in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Monday night in Salem, Ore.
Corban (9-6, 1-2 CCC) took the initial lead on a lay-up by James Green 70 seconds into the game and the Warriors wouldn’t trail although Evergreen (3-9, 0-2 CCC) kept things close. The Warriors eventually pushed the lead into double-digits with a three-ball by Jake Mauermann with 9:19 left in the first half. Corban continued to grow the lead as the first half came to a close, taking the 46-27 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Corban lead continued to grow, moving into the 20s on the first basket of the period. The advantage reached its largest point at 27 with 7:19 left to go but the Geoducks managed to keep things much closer in the second half as the Warriors earned the 83-61 win. After shooting 70.4% from the field in the first half, Corban managed just 37.1% in the second half to finish at 51.6% for the game.
Evergreen was led by 16 points from senior Marice Tolliver (Tacoma, Wash./Lower Columbia College). Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor College) came off the bench to add 13 in his season-debut while Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC) added 12 points in the losing effort.
Corban was led by 16 points from Erik Cronrath. Jordan Carter and James Green each added 15 in the win while Josiah Sebens rounded out the Warriors in double-digits with 11 points on the night. The Warriors took advantage of 18 Evergreen turnovers, posting 28 points following giveaways, including eight on the fast break.
Evergreen returns to the hardwood in less than 24 hours when they head down to Eugene to take on Northwest Christian. Tip with the Beacons is set for 7:30 pm.
