PORTLAND, Ore. – Wrapping up a brief road trip that saw both the Evergreen Geoducks men’s and women’s basketball teams short-handed, the Geoducks dropped both ends of a Cascade Conference doubleheader against the Warner Pacific Knights on Saturday night at C.C. Perry Gymnasium in Portland, Ore. The Evergreen women fell to Warner Pacific, 70-55, while the Geoduck men fell to the #17 Knights, 93-67.
In the women’s game, the Geoducks (4-12, 2-5 CCC) found themselves down by nine points at halftime, 33-24. Despite 45.8% shooting in the second half, Evergreen was unable to close the gap as they fell, 70-55, despite 14 points from sophomore guard Sami Clark (Monroe, Wash./Edmonds CC). Junior
Jessica Edge (Lake Stevens, Wash./Skagit Valley CC) added 12 points while Danielle Swain (Rainier, Wash./Black Hills HS) and Mele Rich (Lakewood, Wash./Pierce CC) each added 10 points. Swain added 10 rebounds in addition to earn the double-double. Complete play-by-play was not made available by Warner Pacific.
In the men’s game, the Geoducks (1-15, 0-7 CCC) kept pace with the Knights in rebounding, putting up 45 boards compared with 47 for WPC. Sadly for Evergreen, the remainder of the stats would go the way of Warner Pacific as the 17th-ranked Knights earned points from 12 different players en route to the 93-67 win.
Evergreen was led by 18 points each from Mike DeRosier (Puyallup, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) and Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./Olympic College). Lewis also added 14 rebounds in the loss while Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor College) chipped in 11 points.
The Geoducks return to Olympia and CRC Gymnasium on Friday night when they play host to Southern Oregon. The Evergreen women will tip with the Raiders at 5:30 pm, followed by the men at 7:30 pm.
