LA GRANDE, Ore. – Controlling the game in just about every category, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers made easy work of the Evergreen Geoducks, 109-63, in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum in La Grande, Ore.
After exchanging baskets early, Eastern Oregon used a 13-0 run to pull ahead by double-digits over the visiting Geoducks. The Mounties continued to pile it on as the lead hit 20 with 5:46 left to go following a layup by Ervin Felder as EOU took a 46-26 lead into the break.
The Mountaineers continued to pile it on in the second half as EOU pushed the lead to 30 with 17:26 remaining in the game and then to 40 with 11:12 still left on the clock. Robert Barrington hit a three-pointer with 6:07 left to put EOU up by a half-century, 92-42, as the short-handed Geoducks fell 109-63.
Evergreen was led by 19 points from Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC). Mike DeRosier (Puyallup, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) chipped in 17 points while Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor CC) put up 14 points in the loss.
Eastern Oregon was led by 16 points from Mason Jones. Cody Thurmond added 11 points while John Buhler, Jamar Johnson, Jeff Ranstrom and Felder all scored 10 points in the win. The Mountaineers outrebounded the Geoducks, 57-28, on the game, including 23 offensive boards.
The Geoducks return home on Friday night when they play host to eighth-ranked Warner Pacific. Tip with the Knights is set for 7:30pm.
