OLYMPIA, Wash. – Playing with just six players for the second straight day, the Evergreen Geoducks battled tough with the Corban Warriors before falling, 82-65, in a Cascade Conference men’s basketball game on Monday evening at CRC Gymnasium in Olympia, Wash.
The Geoducks (1-19, 0-11 CCC) controlled things early, building a lead over the Warriors (12-11, 4-7 CCC) before a 13-2 run put Corban up by six midway through the period. Evergreen fought back to take the lead again with 4:42 left in the first half on a three-pointer by Mike DeRosier (Puyallup, Wash./South Puget Sound CC) but Corban once again went on a run, this time 20-5, to take a 48-33 halftime lead.
In the second half, Evergreen put on the defensive pressure, holding Corban to just two offensive rebounds in the final period, but the Warrior lead stayed in double-digits for all 20 minutes as Evergreen couldn’t make it over the hump. Corban took advantage of free opportunities to ice the game, going eight-of-eight on free throws in the second half to collect the 82-65 win.
Evergreen was led by 22 points from Larry Green (Seattle, Wash./Grays Harbor CC). Patrick Lewis (Bremerton, Wash./Olympic College) added 13 points while Travis Wagner (Federal Way, Wash./Green River CC) chipped in 12. Elzie Dickens (Seattle, Wash./Highline CC) was the lone Geoduck coming off the bench, putting up 10 points in the losing effort. The Geoducks outrebounded their opponent for the second straight night, holding a 36-33 edge on Monday.
Corban was led by 33 points from Jordan Carter, who made 12-of-20 attempts from the field, including five from behind the arc. Erik Cronrath added 14 points while Jake Mauermann finished with 11 points. The Wariros took advantage of 22 Evergreen turnovers, scoring 32 points following Geoduck giveaways.
Evergreen will head southeast this weekend when they make the drive to College of Idaho on Friday. Tip with the ‘Yotes is set for 7:30pm MST in Caldwell, Idaho.
