PORTLAND, Ore. – After conceding a first half, the Evergreen Geoducks pulled even in the closing minutes of regulation, forcing a 1-1 tie with the host Warner Pacific Knights on Saturday afternoon at Palermini Stadium in Portland, Ore.
The Knights (7-4-3, 5-3-3 CCC) got on the board first as Almir Celebic took the pass from Alija Sacirovic and went one on one with Evergreen (4-8-2, 3-6-2 CCC) keeper Christian Pettit (Sprint Branch, Texas/UT-San Antonio) before finishing into the lower left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
The Geoducks scored in the 84th minute when George Bundy (Enumclaw, Wash./Enumclaw HS) fired in a direct kick to even things up at 1-1. After combining for 33 shots in the first 90 minutes, the teams were defensive in the second half, shooting just three times combined.
Pettit was solid in net for the Geoducks, making 11 saves and allowing just the one goal in 110 minutes in net. Drew Bonifacio made six saves for the host Knights, also playing all 110 minutes.
Evergreen will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Concordia to take on the Cavaliers.
