KIRKLAND, Wash. – After an overtime contest earlier this month, the Northwest Eagles put together a dominant performance, shutting out the Evergreen Geoducks, 3-0, in a Cascade Conference men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Kirkland, Wash.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard just 3:02 into the game as Luke Fischer took passes from Edgar Esquivel and Mackenzie Samuelsen before firing it past Evergreen keeper Christian Pettit (Sprint Branch, Texas/UT-San Antonio) for the 1-0 lead. The score would remain the same through halftime but not long after the break, NU struck again, this time on an unassisted score by Drew Jensen in the 50th minute.
Northwest wrapped up the scoring in the 81st minute as Nickey Ricks took a pass from Alfredo Martinez before shooting from about 15 yards out and into the goal, giving the Eagles the 3-0 win. Evergreen was outshot, 20-9, on the match. Despite the three scores, Pettit was solid in net, making seven saves for the Geoducks. Joe Galbraith was just as impressive, making six saves to collect the clean sheet.
The Geoducks will head north again on Wednesday afternoon when they take on Trinity Lutheran in a non-conference tilt. The match with the TLC Eagles is set for 3:30 pm at Cavalero Mid-High School in Everett, Wash.
