There is currently one (1) seasonal full-time position open with the Oregon Department of Forestry at the South Fork Forest Camp located approximately 26 miles West of Forest Grove and 28 miles East of Tillamook. The seasonal full-time position generally works from January through September. WHAT WILL YOU DO

You will provide custodial supervision of Department of Corrections (DOC) minimum adults in custody assigned to community custody crews in support of State Forests Division Forest Management Plans at dispersed work sites within the Northwest Oregon geographic area, and Fire Protection Division emergency fire suppression objectives statewide on 16 million acres of protected lands. Objectives are met by transporting community custody crews to remote forest work sites, recreation facilities occupied by the public, Agency compounds, and communities throughout the State to suppress wild land fires and provide pro-social direction and accountability for organized community custody crews.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR

Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:

  • Experience working as leader of a team and/or crew.
  • Experience with wildland fire suppression operations.
  • Experience operating hand tools, chainsaws and motorized equipment.
  • Able to lead a team in a challenging, stressful and unique work environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in young stand management.
  • Knowledge and experience in recreation facility and trail maintenance.
  • Current operations-based fire qualifications:
    • Single Resource Boss
    • Crew Boss
    • Task Force Leader/Strike Team Leader
    • Division Supervisor
  • One year of forestry-related experience such as tree planting, forest management, or fire preparedness and suppression activities which includes coordinating or directing the work of others (e.g., orienting, motivating, scheduling, assigning, reviewing, etc.)

REQUIRED DRIVING RECORD CHECK

This position requires the operation of a State vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business.   • Conviction of a major traffic offense within the previous 24 months which includes reckless driving, driving under the influence, failing to perform the duties of a driver, criminal driving while suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, felony hit and run, etc.;
  • Felony revocation of driving privileges or felony or misdemeanor license suspension within the previous 24 months;
  • More than 3 moving traffic violations in the previous 12 months;
  • A careless driving conviction in the previous 12 months;
  • A Class A moving traffic violation in the previous 12 months.
