OK I’m finally posting a (somewhat) detailed summary of my quarter so far. I think I’ll be more active in contributing to the intern blog in the coming weeks as my schedule starts to become more streamlined. This quarter has been pretty hectic so far but I’m starting to enjoy the workload and the amount of knowledge I’m gaining.
SO:
-week 1 Ben Kamen and I began a preliminary diagnosis of the issues we were facing in the music tech labs and compiled a prioritized list of tasks to be completed. Needless to say, getting these labs up to speed is an ongoing battle which we’re working on daily.
-I drafted updated flow and patchbay diagrams for all the labs, laminated them, and replaced the obsolete graphs.
-I gave proficiencies to the Hybrid students and the Intro to music tech students and began my administrative duties for the music tech labs.
-Electronic media workshops, front desk shifts, and production jobs. that saturday we had a waffle breakfast in the CCAM. stuffed my face.
-I acquired a copy of the Yamaha sound reinforcement handbook and have begun weekly readings.
-I have been scheduling myself a weekly block of studio time in the advanced lab to work with the buchla 200 analog modular synth and trouble shoot any problems I find.
-I have set up and run sound for a few productions including the annual Harvest Festival at the organic farm.
-I have begun soldering workshops with Raoul Berman and will soon began making new balanced 1/4″ patchbay cables.
-I have begun putting together a small modular synth which consists of 3 MOOG effects boxes, a control processor and a modular patchbay which I will work with Peter Randlette to build.
-I met with Student Activities with a few other interns and EM employees to begin the production of the annual Evergreen student recorded album project. It looks like we’re going to release the album digitally(mp3) and on vinyl this year. I’m really excited to tell you that we are going to archive the entire history of the album project online, and make it available for the public to download. 30+ years of Evergreen music history for the entire world to hear!!
-I have begun working with Ben English and Peter Randlette in the new digital audio lab and I’m pleased to say the lab is amazing and works really well. I’m always taken aback when technology actually does what it’s supposed to. The Yamaha O2R is an amazing console and surprisingly intuitive given it’s complexity.
-in the next couple of days I plan on posting some work in progress pictures of the MOOG synth. I also want to post some audio files to give you an idea of what I’ve been doing with buchla.
OK B4N TTYL LOLZZZ
