About
Welcome to the submissions blog for the 2017 Spring/Summer Organic Farm Almanac!
We are currently collecting original student work to be considered for print in our first edition.
This new student publication was created after requests for a farmers’ almanac to be sold at the Evergreen Organic Farm Market stand. We have started this project based off of this request.
Our intentions are to write, produce, and publish a magazine featuring student submissions. We are designing our own biodynamic calendar based off of work at the Organic Farm and intend to include it within the publication along with student writing and art.
Our hope is that this publication will serve as a platform for communication across food and agricultural studies students here at Evergreen while continuing to teach the community about food justice and food sustainability.
While we will accept any submission, we especially encourage students who are studying food and agriculture to submit their related-projects. Some of the submissions that we are looking to publish include:
- journals and reflections from working on the farm
- reflections about food and taste
- research papers (no longer than 5,000 words)
- creative writing
- recipes
- poetry
- graphic art
- photography
- soil test reports
- reflections on student projects, ILCs, etc
- literature reviews
- student produced graphs or chart
- agricultural how-tos
- interviews
The first print publication will be ready to view at the beginning of September 2017. With any luck, we would like to be able to offer an electronic publication as well. We encourage anyone who is interested in contributing to this project and looking for an outlet to publish their work to contact us and become an author.

If you are interested in contributing further, we will be having weekly meetings beginning soon to discuss technical logistics and editing. Towards July 2017, we will be looking for a team of editors to choose the highest quality work and help put together the final publication.
