Singer Kathleen Hanna fronts the band The Julie Ruin in concert at the Capitol Theater on Fri., Nov. 8, 2013. The Punk Singer, a documentary on Hanna, is one of the films screening in the 2013 film festival. Hanna and bassist Kathi Wilcox are both alumni of The Evergreen State College.
Earlier this month the Olympia Film Society kicked off its 30th annual festival with a concert headlined by The Julie Ruin. The band has local roots going back to the 1990s when singer Kathleen Hanna led Oly’s own Bikini Kill.
