KAOS: Your Community Radio

You’re listening to K.A.O.S 89.3FM, Olympia, Washington…. KAOS is Evergreen’s community radio station. That’s right, community, not college radio. On the airwaves of KAOS you get more than just a college radio station. You get a taste of both the college that houses the station as well as the community that supports it.

The KAOS studios are open to all students and community members alike. All you have to do is go through the free 6-week training and you can find yourself with your very own radio show! Offering this free training is one way that KAOS gives back to the student population of Evergreen. Station staff also work hand in hand with various interdisciplinary programs on campus to add radio know how to the curriculum.

Funding for KAOS comes from both the S&A board as well as membership fees and donations. Every year they hold their Spring Member Drive, a fundraising event where they try to expand their membership and meet a monetary goal. This year they surpassed that goal! In other good news for KAOS they’ve just recently been awarded funding to replace the current, somewhat outdated, antenna. This means a stronger, possibly farther-reaching, signal for KAOS listeners in the near future!
