Debrief of Week 4: Movement Workshop, R. E.
I. Recap
A. Somatics — Somatic Awareness with BREATH TRANSITIONS
1. SHAPE — MOVEMENT — BREATH
2. 3 types of contraction w/breath between (suspension; in yoga called ‘retention’)
a. sense — suspension between breaths,
b. distinguish arriving at liminal from in-breath and from out-breath
3. Reciprocal — agonist/antagonist muscle groups/sets
a. mobility/stability
b. antagonist group acts as support for graded contraction of agonist group
c. 3-dimensionality, breath as temporal measure
II. Somatics # 1-7, WITH TRANSITIONS
* >>>> PRACTICE @ 3 Xs week — so you needn’t “think” about the transitions
III. Same-TIME/Same-SHAPE
A. Recap– 2 groups
B. Add CHOICE
1. Same-time; 2. Hold SHAPE; 3. Slower
C. Aesthetic CHOICE
1. Transcend self — self choice for better group (active/passive; contract/lengthen; hold to create interesting relationships of SHAPE, SPACE, and TIME
2. Sense GROUP SHAPE (symmetry/asymmetry)
3. Sense GROUP DYNAMICSÂ — WHEN do you move; WHY do you choose “same”, “hold/not move”, and “slow”?
* ASSIGNMENT: 1. Practice Somatics # 1-7 (Hanna, 99) @ 3x per week
2. Pracitce “progressive relaxation” @ 3x per week (tense and relax individual muscle sets, add images or proprioception (rolling weight, wave, spatial or place imagery w/sensation–visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory, etc.
